ResXManager doesn't start

description

Since the final version of Visual Studio 2017 the plugin doesn't start any more. First it gave some error messages, which i don't remember. Since today it doesn't even do that.

I already tried to reinstall it but nothing changed.

I think not. The plugin is not deactivated. I also have the menu entries. The window just doesn't open when I click them.

tomenglert wrote Mar 20 at 11:47 AM

Anything in the output window?

AndiBr wrote Mar 20 at 1:51 PM

Unfortunately not.

tomenglert wrote Mar 20 at 2:21 PM

If there is no output at all, the extension does not get loaded at all, and the menu entries are probably zombies, so something is completely wrong with the installation.

Did you try uninstall and then reinstall the extension?

AndiBr wrote Mar 20 at 2:38 PM

Yes, I reinstalled it several times. I also deleted the relics from AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\15.0_aeed0d26\Extensions. The entries disappear if I deactivate or uninstall the plugin.

Is there no "ResX Resource Manager" pane at all in the output window, or does it exist and it's just empty?

AndiBr wrote Mar 21 at 9:29 AM

Good morning,

there is no pane. Not even an empty.
It is also not shown in the new Visual Studio-Performance settings. In the VS 2017RC it was listet with a long loading time.

I let a colleague test the Plugin. He is getting the same Exception that I got until last week. He still runs the VS2017RC. I don't know if the problems are related or if it gives any more information but I attach a screenshot.

Sorry, the screenshot didn't want to attach.
Here it is:

The screenshot is not really helpful, can you post the log file?

I checked my own ActivityLog and found an exception from yesterday:

Associated with changeset 37755: Show details of type loader exceptions

tomenglert wrote Mar 22 at 8:18 AM

a) How did you install VS2017, i.e. which features are active?

b) Can you try this build? It should show some extra message details.
